Steve Clarke has confirmed that he is interested in signing Chelsea winger Victor Moses - and expressed concern that West Bromwich Albion haven't done enough in the transfer market.

Clarke, having accepted long ago that he couldn't prise Romelu Lukaku out of Stamford Bridge for a second time, has noted that Moses may now be available on loan following Jose Mourinho's dealings this week.

But he is not overly optimistic of securing Moses as Liverpool, Everton and Southampton are also reportedly on his trail.

"Moses is available to come out and he's a player we would be interested in," Clarke said. "But I can't say I'm confident in landing him or any player at the moment.

"Time is short. I'm getting nervous and I'm concerned we've left it too late - that we won't get the players in to improve the squad. We do need some help. Scott (Sinclair) coming in was great as he gave the place a lift.

"It would be nice to get a couple of others in. It's a long way to go until January, so there will be no other solution.

"The chairman and Richard Garlick (sporting and technical director) are working hard to make things fall for us but a lot of the big targets are gone now.

"I'm a head coach - not a manager with a budget, remember. That means the club have the final say. I can make recommendations but it's down to the club to bring in players. My job is to work with the players.

"It would be nice if the club could help us with a couple of signings before the window shuts. We still need one or two in."

Clarke, who has made defender Gabriel Tamas available for sale, says Boaz Myhill will start in Sunday's home game against Swansea as long as he is fully fit after the injury that kept him out in midweek as Ben Foster embarked on what could be 12 weeks out of the team.

One man who could come into Albion's thinking as they seek experienced cover is on their doorstep - Aston Villa's Shay Given.

Clarke says he had no doubts that Nicolas Anelka - also in line to face the Swans - would return despite saying he planned to retire following the death of his agent Eric Manasse.

"It didn't cross my mind ever that Nicolas wouldn't come back," he added. "I know that had I needed to persuade Nicolas to come back, then it would be wrong. But, as soon as he walked in the door on Wednesday, I knew he was right and wanted to be part of the squad. He wants to finish his career on a high."
