Italian goalkeeper joins Arsenal
Arsenal have signed goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano on loan from Palermo with an option to buy.
The 27-year-old Italy international joined Palermo from Inter Milan in 2012 but spent time on loan at Fiorentina last season.
A statement on the Italian side's official website read: "The goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has joined Arsenal on loan with the right to complete a permanent deal."
He arrives to provide competition for current Arsenal No. 1 Wojciech Szczesny along with Lukasz Fabianski, with the Gunners having sold back-up Vito Mannone to Sunderland earlier this summer.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said on his club's official website: "Viviano is a player that we have rated for some time and we are very pleased to have signed him on loan. He's experienced and has proved himself at a high level, and provides us with excellent cover to our existing goalkeepers."
Viviano becomes Arsenal's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini on free transfers.
