Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has admitted he cannot understand why Real Madrid sold the "unique" Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.

But Cazorla believes Madrid's loss is Arsenal's gain, admitting the north London club were "lucky" to secure Ozil.

Ozil broke Arsenal's transfer record when he completed his £42.5 million move to the Premier League on the final day of the summer window.

And Cazorla, a summer transfer from Malaga last year, said he could not wait to play and "learn alongside" Arsenal's latest addition

"I am very happy that Ozil is here," Cazorla said. "He is a spectacular player and we are very lucky we are going to learn alongside him.

"I don't understand that [why Real Madrid sold him], he is a unique player. You will have to ask the club for reasons why they sold him, but at the same time he didn't think he was getting the opportunities he deserved and luckily he has come to us.

"He is an important player and he is going to be very good for the team and the way we play. I hope he can help us fight against the big teams."
