Barcelona winger Cristian Tello claims he turned down a move to Liverpool to stay at the Nou Camp.

The 22-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Anfield in 2012, and reports suggested there was a possibility of the deal being resurrected this summer.

Tello, though, insists that he was happy to remain a Barca player, despite not being a first choice - and with his chances likely to be restricted further following the arrival of Brazilian Neymar from Santos.

Tello signed a contract extension at the beginning of August, which commits him to the club until 2018.

"I always wanted to stay here," Tello said.

"The coach has confidence in me. I'm happy and ready to play. I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never thought about leaving."
