Alex McLeish has intimated that a deal is in the pipeline to bring Wigan midfielder Charles N'Zogbia to Birmingham.

Wigan are believed to have rejected an offer of £8 million for the former Newcastle man, but an improved gambit is said to be on the brink of being tabled.

McLeish, on a day when the club paraded new keeper Ben Foster in front of the media, refused to comment directly on the player but gave a broad hint that N'Zogbia is on his radar.

"I don't like to talk about players publicly until the eyes are dotted, so to speak, so I will keep tight lipped about it for now," McLeish told Sky Sports News when asked directly if a bid was in for N'Zogbia.

"There are a number of players we are targeting and we are hopeful of doing some business and bringing some more quality to the club. We have got to give the team every help to make it better."
