British pair charged with match-fixing
Two Britons are among six men who have been charged after Australian police arrested 10 people as part of an investigation into football match-fixing.
Joe Woolley and Reiss Noel, who both played for Hornchurch in the Isthmian League before moving to Southern Stars in Australia in July, have been charged with betting-related corruption. All those arrested come from the Southern Stars.
The investigation was prompted by information provided by the Football Federation of Australia. Four other men have been released pending enquiries.
"The integrity of football is paramount," FFA chief David Gallop said. "We provided information to Victoria Police within 24 hours of receiving an alert from our international betting integrity monitoring agents. We're determined to keep football clean. Alongside other sports bodies in Australia and globally, we must eradicate corrupt behaviour from sport."
