Manchester United have loaned midfielder Jesse Lingard to Birmingham City.

The 21-year-old will spend the next month at the Championship club as David Moyes continues his policy of sending United's young players out on loan to gain first-team experience.

Lingard was United's top scorer on their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia with four goals, including the first of Moyes' reign against the A-League All Stars.

He also made his England Under-21 debut against Scotland in August but is yet to feature for United in a competitive match. Lingard netted twice for United's Under-21 team in a 4-1 win against Bolton on Monday.

Birmingham, who have only taken four points from their first seven games of the season, are 21st in the Championship after Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Burnley.

Moyes has also sent four other United players to Championship clubs for temporary spells with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone signing for Yeovil, midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe playing for Ipswich, attacking midfielder Nick Powell going to Wigan and striker Federico Macheda moving to Doncaster.

In addition, right-back Marnick Vermijl has joined NEC Nijmegen on loan, while Angelo Henriquez has been borrowed by Real Zaragoza and Bebe is spending the season in Portugal with Pacos de Ferreira.
