Baines on song as Hull stun Newcastle

Everton made it back-to-back Premier League wins with a dramatic 3-2 victory over West Ham at Upton Park.

Between them, both sides had only scored five Premier League goals since the start of the new campaign but West Ham netted their first since the opening day following a large slice of luck. Ravel Morrison's effort smashed into Phil Jagielka, leaving Tim Howard with no chance as the ball deflected into the net and gave the home side the lead shortly after the half hour mark.

It stayed that way until the break, but it was the away side that showed promise in the early exchanges of the second half. Roberto Martinez was forced to replace the injured Leon Osman, as Everton began to apply great pressure around the West Ham penalty area; the equaliser soon arrived as Leighton Baines found the top corner of Jussi Jaaskelainen's net with a fantastic free-kick.

Mark Noble put the home side ahead from the spot after James McCarthy brought down Kevin Nolan in the box, but Noble was then sent off for a second yellow card for a late challenge on Ross Barkley.

Baines scored another inch-perfect free-kick to set up a tense finish, before Romelu Lukaku's powerful header completed the comeback and secured the points for Martinez.

Hull City recorded their first league win since the opening day of the season as they came from behind twice to defeat Newcastle 3-2 at St James' Park.

The home side made use of the early pressure and found the breakthrough after ten minutes as Loic Remy latched on to Papiss Cisse's volley to head in his first Premier League goal.

Hull rallied and were soon level when Robbie Brady drilled in an equaliser through the legs of Tim Krul but Remy struck again shortly before the break with a sharp finish.

However, former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was left smiling early in the second half as Ahmed Elmohamady glanced his header in off the far post following Brady's whipped free-kick.

It would take an immense piece of quality to settle this tie and Sone Aluko did not disappoint - his volley crashed into the net following good work on the left from George Boyd to earn Hull the points.

West Brom piled the pressure on Sunderland manager Paolo di Canio with a convincing 3-0 win at The Hawthorns, giving them their first league win of the season.

Steve Clarke handed record signing Stephane Sessegnon his Albion debut and his decision was justified in the 20th minute. After Kieran Westwood blocked Scott Sinclair's initial effort, Sessegnon was quickly on hand to convert the rebound and leave former manager di Canio regretting his comments on the attacker's commitment.

West Brom continued to turn on the style as Morgan Amalfitano cut inside and unleashed a vicious effort which deflected off Nicolas Anelka and onto the crossbar, leaving Di Canio with plenty to think about at the break.

Whatever the Italian said at half time, it seemed to have the adverse effect; after seeing his side go down to ten men when Steven Fletcher departed with a suspected dislocated shoulder, Di Canio's misery was further compounded when Liam Ridgwell bundled a second for West Brom.

Amalfitano completed victory with a fine strike late on, leaving Clarke beaming and Di Canio with plenty to think about seeing his side bottom of the table.

In the lunchtime kick-off, Paul Lambert enjoyed another winning return to his former stomping ground as Aston Villa saw off Norwich 1-0 at Carrow Road.

Both teams started strongly as Andreas Weimann clattered a left-footed effort against the woodwork, before the home side were awarded a soft penalty when Ciaran Clark was harshly judged to have handled inside the box. However, Brad Guzan was at his best to deny Robert Snodgrass from the spot and keep the scores level.

Lambert was forced into his first change as Christian Benteke limped off with injury soon after, but substitute Libor Kozak took little time to make an impact when slotting in the opener from Gabriel Agbonlahor's cut-back.

Guzan brilliantly denied substitute Gary Hooper at the death as Norwich piled forward, but Villa held on to record a second win of the season and their first clean sheet of 2013.
