United will bounce back - Moyes

David Moyes has called on his players to quickly recover after his Manchester United side were thumped in the derby by bitter rivals Manchester City at the Etihad.

A double from Sergio Aguero and goals from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri saw United come out a distant second-best, who only had a Wayne Rooney free-kick to celebrate as a consolation near the end in a 4-1 defeat.

In what was both Moyes' and City manager Manuel Pellegrini's maiden Manchester derby, it was the latter who enjoyed sweet success.

And Moyes has backed his players to recover from the loss.

"We didn't play well; they were better. They started much stronger and much quicker than us," Moyes admitted after the match. "But we'll get better - it's a long season to go. We'll put this behind us and move on."

Moyes also praised City for the way they played.

"I thought Manchester City were very good. We weren't, but City started the game really well. We really could have done with coming in at half-time 1-0, losing the second goal just before half-time changes it a little bit. Nevertheless, they came out strong again in the second half," he said.

"I think they got a grip of the game very early on, and we didn't. We never really got to grips with their midfield players in the early part of the game.

"Because of that, they started to get domination. We had to be stronger, but we weren't. But great credit to the lads that they kept going, kept working away and got a goal back.

"Whatever manager loses the game, you try and win the next one - nothing changes."
