Huddlestone: Charity afro stays until I score

Hull City Tigers' Tom Huddlestone is desperate to score his first goal for the club - so he can cut his hair for the first time in two years.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder does not have a goal to his name since April 20, 2011, sparking a charity pledge that has grown shaggy and out of control.

Huddlestone set up the 'Huddlefro' Justgiving charity account to raise money for Cancer Research, vowing that he will not cut his ballooning afro until he finds the back of the net.

"I wish I could change my mind, but it is settled for Cancer Research now, a charity I chose because I have lost a few family and friends to it over the years," Huddlestone told the Daily Mail.

"It started with a bit of fun with my friends back in Nottingham when I first got injured. Now it has got a bit out of hand but it is for a good cause and I have raised a decent amount of money, about £12,000."

Huddlestone, signed by Steve Bruce for £6million in the summer, says the chance to play an integral role at Hull led him to join the Tigers instead of rival bidders Sunderland.

"Everyone wants to play," Huddlestone added. "Anyone who has had a long term injury like myself, you count your blessings.

"When you are fit and training every day you want to play at the weekend. If that is not the case you train harder or move on and prove yourself elsewhere like I have."
