Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has snubbed the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United by signing a new five-year contract with the German champions - ending months of speculation that he was set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.

Ribery's future has been the subject of much debate over the past 12 months, with Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona all linked with a move for the French international.

But the winger, who has been an integral part of Bayern's successful season - helping the club to win a league and cup double and reach the Champions League final - has committed his future to the Bavarians until at least 2015.

"We are very pleased that one of the best players in the world has agreed to a contract extension. This is also a sign of the great objectives of FC Bayern in the coming years,'' Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

Ribery's former deal was due to expire next year and the Bayern board was eager to tie him down to a longer contract in an effort to ward off clubs interested in signing him this summer at a knockdown price.

That has now been achieved thanks to what is reportedly the most lucrative contract ever tabled by the club, and Ribery revealed he is delighted to continue the association.

"I am very happy to have decided to stay with FC Bayern,'' Ribery said. "My family and I are very happy to be staying in Munich. This club has become a big family for me.''

An injury in pre-season training and an initial struggle to break into Louis Van Gaal's first team increased speculation linking him with a move, but he returned early this year to play an key role in Bayern's double-winning triumph.

Ribery has scored seven goals in 30 games this season and has ten assists to his name, but he missed Bayern's Champions League final defeat to Inter on Saturday through suspension, after he was sent-off in the first leg of the semi-final victory over Lyon.
