West Brom blasted for Olsson 'blood shirt' giveaway
West Bromwich Albion have been blasted by their own fans after inexplicably offering defender Jonas Olsson's bloodied shirt from Saturday's win over Manchester United as a prize.
Football rules dictate any player with an open wound must leave the field immediately to receive medical attention and change into a fresh shirt for health and safety reasons, but it seems the Baggies are more than happy to give the soiled jersey to a fan.
The post on the club's Facebook page read: "OK we have an utterly amazing prize to give away today! Jonas Olsson had a bit of a John Wile moment against Man Utd and as a result his match shirt ended up a bit the worse for wear!
"Well we have got our hands on that very shirt and we are giving it away to one of you!"
The post ended: "Oh and don't go using the DNA on the shirt to clone your own Jonas (or Clonas) if you win!"
One fan's comment reads: "WTF? You're giving away a dirty 'blood-stained' shirt that you wouldn't allow to be worn on the pitch any more to protect the other players against HIV, but are quite willing to pass it on to the fans. Are you for real?"
Another fan wrote: "I love West Brom but this is a little weird."
