Torres to face no action for Vertonghen incident
Fernando Torres will face no retrospective action from the Football Association after appearing to scratch Jan Vertonghen during Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday.
Torres, who was sent off after the incident for a second yellow card, clashed with the Belgian in the 50th minute of the game.
Referee Mike Dean appeared to miss the two players' coming together although his assistant did signal that something had occurred leading to speculation that the Chelsea striker could face up to a four-game ban.
A statement from the Football Association confirmed: "In these particular circumstances, in line with The FA's policy on when retrospective action may be taken, reviewed this summer by the game's stakeholders (the Premier League, the Football League, the Professional Footballers' Association, the League Managers' Association, Professional Game Match Officials Limited and the National Game), no action may be taken.
"For more information on retrospective action you can watch our explanatory video or read the statement we published in July."
Torres will now be suspended for Chelsea's Premier League trip to Norwich on Sunday but will be available for the home game against Cardiff after the international break.
