Ferdinand out of Shakhtar clash
Rio Ferdinand has not travelled to Ukraine with Manchester United for their Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk, though Robin van Persie did make the trip.
Anderson, Fabio and Wilfried Zaha were also left out of David Moyes' travelling party.
"Rio has a slight groin problem," said manager David Moyes. "It is nothing serious but I was never bringing him anyway."
United are looking to bounce back from consecutive Premier League defeats to Manchester City and West Brom that have left them 12th in the table. Van Persie returned to action against West Brom, coming off the bench after missing the Manchester derby following a groin injury.
The club have made their worst start to a league season for 24 years, though they top their Champions League group after their opening 4-2 win against Bayer Leverkusen.
