Rooney out of Manchester United tie
Wayne Rooney is out of the Manchester United side to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in Ukraine this evening, with the in-form striker reportedly suffering from a shin injury sustained in training.
Robin van Persie returns to the starting XI after featuring from the substitutes bench on Saturday in the defeat to West Brom, but Rooney - who has scored United's only goals in their past two Premier League matches and got a double in the first Champions League game of the season against Bayer Leverkusen - is not even in reserve for David Moyes.
Shakhtar Donetsk: Pyatov, Srna, Kucher, Rakitsky, Shevchuk, Hubschmann, Fernando, Taison, Teixeira, Douglas, Adriano
Substitutes: Kanibolotskiy, Kryvtsov, Stepanenko, Bernard, Ilsinho, Eduardo, Ferreyra
Manchester United: De Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Cleverley, Welbeck; van Persie
Substitutes: Lindegaard, Jones, Giggs, Nani, Young, Kagawa, Hernandez
