Real Madrid are set to test Liverpool's resolve in January by making a £45 million bid and attempt to bring Luis Suarez to the Bernabeu.

The striker was linked with a move away from Liverpool in the summer, with Arsenal having offers turned down for the 26-year-old.

Suarez was intent on leaving Anfield, but after a transfer failed to materialise the Uruguayan revealed he will stay at the club for the time being.

However, The Sun reports that Madrid will make an offer and try to sign him during the January transfer window, with the newspaper quoting a source close to Suarez as saying: "It is possible Luis could end up at Real. We expect Real to present a formal offer in December."

Madrid president Florentino Perez though insisted towards the end of September that the club will not be signing anyone in January after capturing Gareth Bale and making him the most expensive player in the world at £85.3m.
