Swansea's Michu has been handed his first Spain call-up, with the forward replacing the injured David Villa in Vicente Del Bosque's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia.

Villa was forced to leave the pitch with an ankle problem during Atletico's 2-1 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Michu, 27, has scored five goals this season having netted 22 in his first Premier League campaign following his £2 million move from Rayo Vallecano.

In December, Del Bosque had promised to reward Michu's stunning form with a Spain cap, but he has had to wait another 10 months.

Michu becomes the first Swansea player to be called up to the Spain national squad. Del Bosque's side, level with France at the top of Group I, can book their ticket to Brazil with two victories.
