Morrison set to cash in after wonder goal

Ravel Morrison is set to be offered a bumper new contract by West Ham in January following his White Hart Lane wonder goal.

West Ham will attempt to remove the £19 million release clause Morrison installed himself in his current deal, with his performance in Sunday's 3-0 win at Tottenham set to see his value skyrocket.

The 20-year-old joined West Ham from Manchester United on an 18-month contract in January 2012 for an initial £650,000, though that fee could rise to £2 million if he plays a certain number of games.

Morrison could also see his £12,000-a-week wages boosted to £65,000-a-week after a rising scale was triggered by West Ham's return to the Premier League.

However West Ham would be prepared to offer Morrison - who has now hit four goals in eight games - an even higher basic wage if he were to agree to scrapping the release clause.

It marks a sharp turnaround in fortunes for a player who was discarded by United over concerns about his attitude despite his potential.

West Ham were also believed to be resigned to cutting their losses on Morrison because of his off-field behaviour, though co-owner David Sullivan and manager Sam Allardyce remained confident their patience would be rewarded.
