Cesc Fabregas has insisted his focus is on the World Cup with Spain, but has left Arsenal with an uneasy feeling by admitting he has held a long talk with Arsene Wenger about his future.

The Arsenal captain has been strongly linked with a return to Barcelona and the flames have been fanned by the Catalans who confirmed they had made contact and by the player's father who says it is his son's will to move on.

Fabregas looks to be winning his battle for fitness in time to secure a place in the Spain squad and is intent on ensuring there are no distractions.

"A world Cup is too important to be thinking about other things," Fabregas said. "I am concentrating 100 per cent on recovering from injury.

"I have great respect for Arsene Wenger. I have great respect for the club and the fans. Sometimes not even in my house have I felt more loved than I felt at Arsenal."

Although refusing to be drawn into the subject of a move to Barcelona, Fabregas did confirm he has had a meeting with his manager.

He said: "I have had a long conversation with Arsene. I respect him so much and do not want to say too much. He told me to concentrate on my football and the World Cup.

"He told me to leave it in his hands and he will deal with my future. It is not up to me anymore. It is now about Arsenal and whoever it has to be. I do not want to say anything else."
