Hoddle handed FA commission role

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has been handed a role at the FA, chairman Greg Dyke has confirmed.

Hoddle, who was sacked as England manager 14 years ago, has been named on the newly formed FA commission as part of Dyke's plans to reverse the fortunes of the English game.

Dyke warned against England's decline in September, while setting the target of reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2020 and winning the 2022 World Cup.

He is concerned about the dwindling number of Englishmen playing in the Premier League, saying it poses problems for the national team.

Dyke spoke at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to confirm the appointment of Hoddle as part of the commission, which is likely to include a number of other key figures.

The Premier League, however, will not sit on the commission after declining an invitation to do so, according to The Guardian.

Hoddle recently told Zap Sportz: "We've got foreign owners, who bring in foreign managers, who bring in foreign players above English players and it's a downward spiral.

"The England manager's job is a hard job as it is and it's going to get harder and harder unless we readdress it with a rule change."
