Aguero considered City exit

Sergio Aguero has claimed he considered leaving Manchester City - so he could help his former club Independiente recover from the worst season in their history.

Independiente, who were founded in 1904, were relegated from the Argentine top flight for the first time this year, and Aguero, who began his career there, was keen to help.

In August, Aguero's father, Leonel, said the 25-year-old had offered to buy Independiente five players and pay their salaries but said it was rejected.

And Aguero, who cost City £38 million from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and signed a new contract earlier this year, realised it was impractical for him to return to Argentina to help Independiente's promotion bid.

He said: "I love Independiente and when they were relegated I even thought about moving back there. I wanted to help the club to go up again. I definitely thought about it but my agent told me City would have killed us if we had.

"I know my job is at City - I'm just saying the thought passed through my mind when Independiente went down.

"I've been very happy at City since the day I came but I'm definitely going back to Independiente in a few years as I want to finish my career there."

Aguero, a boyhood Independiente fan, joined them at the age of nine and, when he debuted at 15, became the youngest player in the history of first-division football in Argentina.

He left his homeland to join Atletico in 2006 but has often said he wants to play for Independiente again.
