Results justify Capello's style - Carragher

Jamie Carragher believes Fabio Capello's intense style of management is justified when considering his impressive track record because "if you win, you are always right".

Carragher has played under a variety of England and club bosses and Capello became the latest when the Liverpool defender was used as a second-half substitute against Mexico at Wembley on Monday. He has returned to the international fold after a self-imposed three-year absence.

It's natural for managers to have different styles and methods, according to Carragher, so he isn't willing to rank Capello based on his "focused" approach. Carragher believes managers should only be judged by the results he achieves, which in the case of the successful Italian, should stand England in good stead for the World Cup in South Africa.

"Capello is a focused manager," Carragher said. "He is that type of manager. It is difficult for me to say much because I have only been back with England a week. I don't think it is right to say 'one manager does this and it is right'. If you win, you are always right.

"Every manager has their own way of winning things, different England managers have their own ways, but the reason they become England manager is because they are very good managers. It is not that one way is right or one way is wrong - but this manager has his own style and it has proved successful over the years which is encouraging (for the World Cup).''

Carragher has had little problem in returning to the England fold after initially deciding to quit the international game following the friendly with Brazil at Wembley in June 2007.

He said: "The set-up is different in the sense of it is a different manager, and every manager has their own ideas and way of doing things, so that has changed. But in terms of the squad, the players, the backroom people, it is all the same and is always run very well, and always has been.''

Carragher knows England have room for improvement after their performance against Mexico, particularly in the opening 45 minutes, was not over-impressive.

He said: "Everyone in the camp will be pleased with the result but it wasn't the greatest performance. They played quite well in the first half, and the result is all that matters, and that was against a team which is also going to the World Cup. But I am sure the manager will look at ways in which we can improve.''

Carragher thanked the England supporters for giving a positive response to his return to international action. He admits the reception could have been the opposite to the one that greeted him as a second-half substitute for captain Rio Ferdinand.

Carragher said: "I could have understood it if the reception hadn't been that great because I had been out of the England squad for three years of my own accord. I have to say a big thank you for the crowd for being the way they were.''
