Manager of Libyan side shot at in his home

The coach of Libyan side Al Ahly Tripoli was shot at on Saturday, just a month after league football resumed in the country for the first time in more than two-and-a-half years.

Hossam al-Badri, who moved to the Libyan capital in May having led Cairo's Al Ahly from his native Egypt to the African Champions League title last year, was subjected to the attack at his home after a match against Al Sowaihili.

The 53-year-old had led his new club to wins in their first two matches of the campaign before Saturday's draw.

"Our coach was shot at in his home after a match in the league against Al Sowaihili that ended 1-1," the club told local media, according to the Press Association. "He is safe but upset after what happened."

Libya is due to host the finals of the African Nations Cup in 2017 as the country aims to recover from years of dictatorship.

The nation's league had been on hiatus since February 2011, due to the civil uprising which ultimately led to the ousting of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, and FIFA recently allowed the national team's World Cup qualifiers to once again to be played on home soil rather than neutral venues.
