'I thought my head would explode' - Savage

Robbie Savage has claimed he thought his "head was going to explode" after collapsing during a charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.

The 38-year-old former ESPN pundit had scaled 12,000 of the 19,000 feet to reach the summit, before succumbing to potentially fatal altitude sickness.

Savage was later diagnosed with fluid on the lung and critical levels of oxygen in his blood.

"Thank you all for your get well messages," the 38-year-old wrote on Twitter. "I'm out of danger now after good work by doctors and my guide in Kilimanjaro.

"Severe altitude sickness at 13,000ft is an awful and scary situation, fluid on lung, thought my head was going to explode, dangerously low oxygen in blood.

"Vomiting and dizziness then having to get below 9,000 ft as quickly as possible when you're unable to walk straight and told if you go any higher you could possibly die is so, so scary.

"But thankfully I'm ok now and my team are doing wonderfully well, so brave and great people."
