Australia should go for Ferguson - Bosnich

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has called for Sir Alex Ferguson to come out of retirement and manage Australia at the 2014 World Cup.

Previous coach Holger Osieck was sacked on Saturday following successive 6-0 losses to Brazil and France, but Bosnich believes the Football Federation Australia should aim to recruit a world-class manager such as Ferguson.

"We've been throwing around a lot of names but there's one person that I haven't heard mentioned - even though I've got more reason than anyone not to suggest him," Bosnich told Triple M radio.

"I'm just being honest and have had experience under him, so know what he's like - it is Sir Alex Ferguson. That name hasn't been put about, but we need someone of that ilk.

"He [Ferguson] would command a top whack, but in life, and especially in sport, you get what you pay for. If you want the very best, you're going to have to pay for the best."

Bosnich played under Ferguson for two spells during the Scot's 26-year reign at Old Trafford.

Ferguson has previously managed at a World Cup; in 1986 he took Scotland to Mexico following the sudden death of Jock Stein. However, they were eliminated after finishing bottom of their group without winning a game.
