Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young's proposed move to Wigan Athletic is on the verge of collapse because the Championship side cannot afford his wages.

The South Korean, who has made just a single league appearance for Arsenal since signing from Monaco in 2011, is keen on the loan deal and was set to go straight into the side to face Blackpool on Saturday.

But Park currently earns £3 million a year and, even with his parent side helping out, Wigan are struggling to justify the deal.

Park, who started his career at FC Seoul in his homeland, spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo and is eager to move to boost his chances of a World Cup spot.
