Manchester United are considering introducing a standing area at Old Trafford, according to The Independent.

In the past the reigning Premier League champions have been against the idea, but The Independent believes that chief executive Ed Woodward is set to contemplate the idea after he was asked at a fans' forum.

The report also suggests a standing area "will boost the supporters' campaign".

All-seater stadiums were introduced as part of the 1989 Football Spectators Act, and became a law following on from a number of issues, including the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 Liverpool fans were killed.
