Mourinho wants to coach Rooney

Jose Mourinho has issued a cheeky statement suggesting he would love to coach Wayne Rooney, but has admitted it would be "impossible" to prise the forward away from Manchester United.

Mourinho is expected to take the reins at Real Madrid next week, which will expand his options in the transfer market. He has already expressed his admiration for Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole and has now revealed Rooney is on his radar.

Real Madrid have tremendous pulling power in the transfer market due to their standing in world football, but the Portuguese feels there are limits as to who he can attract.

"I'll say it is impossible," Mourinho told AS. "I would like to coach Rooney but my friend Ferguson can rest easy - it is impossible."
