David Moyes has called on Manchester United to rediscover their ruthlessness and kill teams off.

United led Southampton for more than an hour on Saturday but, rather than scoring a second goal, conceded a late equaliser and dropped two points.

And it followed a wasteful display in the previous league game at Old Trafford, where United were beaten by West Bromwich Albion.

Moyes said: "One of the things we will be looking to try and do is finish matches off.

"We have had some opportunities. But I have been saying that near enough from the start. We have had quite a few chances and not taken them. Whilst it is like that you are at risk."

Moyes denied his decision to bring defender Chris Smalling on for striker Wayne Rooney encouraged Southampton to attack and led to their leveller.

"I didn't think that at all," he added. "We didn't take the two forwards off earlier. We kept them on, even though we brought Danny Welbeck and Ryan Giggs on.

"We tried to get a second goal. I only made the change in the last three or four minutes when I was trying to make sure we had some height at set pieces."
