Ibrahimovic escapes punishment for gun gesture

Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has escaped with a warning for pretending to point a gun at the Toulouse bench during last month's match between the sides.

The Swedish striker, 32, made the gesture as he was being substituted in the second half, immediately after clashing with Toulouse defender Abel Aguilar.

The French Football League did not appreciate the incident and asked Ibrahimovic to appear before its disciplinary commission.

But following a hearing on Thursday evening, they decided against punishing the former AC Milan and Barcelona forward.

Ibrahimovic was represented at the hearing by PSG legal representatives, who argued that he had mimicked pointing a gun in response to provocations from the Toulouse substitutes' bench.

According to Le Parisien, they also pointed out that he made the gesture shortly after he had been struck on the neck by Aguilar.

The disciplinary commission also heard evidence from Toulouse before deciding to take no further action.

Many observers believed that Ibrahimovic's gesture was aimed at Toulouse substitute Jonathan Zebina. The pair clashed at training while at Juventus together, but Zebina had disputed Ibrahimovic's version of events in the build up to the PSG-Toulouse game on September 28.

At the same meeting, the league's disciplinary commission handed a three-match ban, with one suspended, to Andre Ayew. The Marseille midfielder was punished for a dangerous tackle on Saint-Etienne's Yohan Mollo on September 24.
