Concerns over Spurs stadium plans

Tottenham's proposal for a new 56,000-seater stadium could harm local homes and businesses, according to a report in The Guardian.

In order to match the club's ambition, Tottenham are keen to build a new stadium that will accommodate more than their current home at White Hart Lane, which has a capacity of 36,240.

It will cost approximately £400 million to build the new ground, which will be based on the site of their existing home after the club bought land around the site, which is based in the Borough of Haringey.

The plans, though, could come at a cost to the shops and homes that are located on land that is planned to be a new walkway, similar to that at Wembley Stadium.

The Guardian reports the club plan to "develop an area opposite the new ground involving the demolition of existing local businesses."

Brian Dossett, who owns a family-run timber and wood-machinist business, said: "They can't just take our factory and our land, which we have built over so many years' work, to build flats to make money; surely that is theft?"

While it is still only a proposal, it is reported that construction works could begin in 2014, with the whole redevelopment potentially taking 15 years to complete.
