Van Persie concerned over injury troubles

Robin van Persie is worried about suffering long-term damage to his toes and groin as he continues to play through the pain barrier for Manchester United.

Van Persie has been receiving injections in order to manage a troublesome toe injury, while the striker has also suffered soreness to his groin and calves.

Despite the ongoing injuries, David Moyes is confident Van Persie will return for United when they visit Fulham on Saturday.

According to reports in The Times, Van Persie is content with having injections to ease the pain but is also concerned he could suffer more damage in the long run if not given the appropriate recovery time.

The international break comes shortly after United host Van Persie's former club Arsenal on November 10, which Moyes may consider an ideal time to allow the Dutchman to recover.

United face a difficult period in the build-up to Christmas, including an away tie at Tottenham and home games with Everton and Newcastle, which Moyes will want a full strength squad at his disposal.

Van Persie missed United's recent Champions League tie with Real Sociedad and Tuesday's League Cup win over Norwich, but was declared fit to start in the 3-2 win over Stoke on Saturday.

But Moyes is convinced United's eight-goal top scorer will be available to lead the line against Martin Jol's side.

He said: "Van Persie has been fine. He's trained well and worked quite well this week so hopefully he will be okay."

In October, Moyes denied rumours of a rift with Van Persie after he was left out of the squad to face Sociedad.
