Begovic happy to score, Boruc aims to 'bounce back'

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic revealed it was a "cool feeling" to score his side's only goal against Southampton, but admitted he felt sorry for opposite number Artur Boruc.

Begovic became the fifth goalkeeper to score in the Premier League when his long clearance bounced over Boruc's head after only 14 seconds in the 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

However, Begovic was quick to state his goal was largely down to the troublesome wind around the stadium - but hopes to get a couple more before the season is out.

• Asmir Begovic was not the only goalkeeper to get on the scoresheet on Saturday - Colwyn Bay stopper Chris Sanna found the net in his side's 3-1 win over Solihull Moors in the Conference North.
• Sanna's long free-kick looped over Jasbir Singh to give the home side the lead in the 11th minute, before further goals from Rob Hopley and Gareth Evans secured the points.

"It's a cool feeling but it is a fortunate incident. I feel bad for Artur Boruc when that happens but it's a good point for us," Begovic told BBC Sport.

"Hopefully we can keep the confidence going. It does not make a goalkeeper look good and after it I did not want to celebrate against him. Hopefully I can get a couple more.

"We are at home and want to get points. We had to graft one out in the end with the conditions. It's the worst conditions you can play in. The wet you can deal with but the wind makes it difficult. You don't know where the ball is going to go."

Boruc apologised over the error and, perhaps using the worst possible choice of words given the situation, indicated he would "bounce back."

"I don't want to remember it anymore," Boruc said. "I blame the wind for that. I'm really sorry for my team-mates and our supporters but what can I say? What happens, happens and I need to bounce back. I promise to get those two points back.

"These kinds of things happen to goalkeepers. It has happened before and will happen again. That's the life of being a goalkeeper, it is not always beautiful. I look forward to the next game."
