Arsenal can win Champions League - Klopp

Klopp feels result was unfair

Jurgen Klopp insists Arsenal can go all the way in the Champions League this season after their smash-and-grab win at Borussia Dortmund.

Aaron Ramsey headed the vital goal just past the hour which gave Arsenal all three points and sent them top of Group F, avenging their 2-1 Emirates Stadium defeat at the hands of Dortmund, last season's beaten finalists, two weeks ago.

And Klopp believes Arsenal can now go on and win their first European Cup - as long as they don't run into holders Bayern Munich.

Klopp said: "Yes, they can win it. They are young, healthy and have good technicians. They won a clever game and could go to the final and win it - so long as they don't play Bayern Munich."

Wenger agreed with his counterpart, saying his side showed what they were capable of in Europe and that they should fear no one.

"This is a huge result. I just hope it strengthens the belief of the team," said Wenger. "We have another massive game on Sunday [at Manchester United] and we want that kind of performance again. Not many teams in the Champions League could achieve this. Overall I would say the team has shown huge solidarity to get through difficult moments in the game.

"We won against a very good team and I respect them. There was maybe more at stake here than when we won in Munich [last season] because people felt they took the game easy because they had beaten us 3-1 at home.

"Against Dortmund both teams had to win - a draw was not good enough. We were united and focused, especially defensively. Dortmund put us under huge pressure and we kept a lot of possession and it was a bit sterile in the first half.

"It was a question of being focused, intelligent, not to make the first mistake but wait for the moment. We had a difficult period in the second half after the first goal and after that we could have scored again."

Wenger also singled out the performance of Ramsey, taking a swipe at the midfielder's detractors in recent seasons who had written him off following some indifferent form after breaking his leg in 2010.

"It shows you how difficult it is to make an assessment: a year ago people thought Ramsey could not score," added Wenger.

"This season he scores game after game. I was always positive with him because when you watch him he is always in goalscoring situations. He has gained confidence this season and has an unbelievable engine. He has ability and that makes him dangerous.

"We look more stable defensively and we have experience in midfield not to lose the ball in stupid positions. Dortmund are dangerous when you lose the ball and to counter that you need maturity."
