Sturridge: My turn of fortunes is down to Rodgers

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has told ESPN of his admiration for manager Brendan Rodgers and how he has developed at the club this season.

Sturridge arrived at Anfield in January 2013 after spells at Manchester City and Chelsea and has now become one of the best strikers in the country having netted eight Premier League goals in 10 games.

His rise has also seen him become a fixture in the England setup as well and if he continues his fine form it would be a major surprise if he was not on the plane to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. It has been an impressive spell at Liverpool so far - something he insists is down to his relationship with Rodgers.

"It's been so much. I can't thank him enough," he told ESPN. "First and foremost for giving me an opportunity. Also, he talks to me a lot and tells me about my game, he's pushing me and doesn't let me rest on my laurels.

"I'm not the type of person to do that as I'm always critical of myself, but sometimes he tells me not to be so critical of myself.

"He wants me to improve, to constantly improve my game and never be content. That's everything from the tactics, to listening to the manager, and he wants me to be on point all the time.

"For me that's great to have a manager to understand me as a person and get along with."
