Lloris left out of Spurs squad as Defoe drops to bench
Record-breaker Jermain Defoe has been left out of Tottenham's starting XI to face Newcastle at White Hart Lane this afternoon.
Defoe became the club's all-time leading scorer in European competition in midweek, but is replaced by Roberto Soldado in the starting line-up.
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris does not even feature as a substitute, following his concussion against Everton last Sunday. Brad Friedel continues in his place.
Tottenham, via their official Twitter account, confirmed that Lloris had been left out on medical advice.
