Gerrard and Walker ruled out of England friendly

Steven Gerrard and Kyle Walker have been ruled out of England's friendly with Chile on Friday, Roy Hodgson has confirmed.

Gerrard, Walker and Daniel Sturridge reportedly missed training on Wednesday, before the England boss stated the Liverpool captain and Tottenham defender would not be involved in the first of two friendlies at Wembley.

Gerrard was previously described as doubtful on Tuesday, with the midfielder suffering from a hip problem which was further aggravated in Liverpool's win over Fulham on Saturday. Walker also misses out through injury.

Manchester United duo Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck had already pulled out of the squad - Carrick is now set to be out of action until Christmas as he recovers from an Achilles problem, while Welbeck has missed the last six United games with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez are in line to make their England debuts, while Jack Wilshere may only feature in one of the two upcoming friendlies according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

With England hosting Germany at Wembley next week, Hodgson may be forced to experiment with his starting XI as he prepares for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Lallana and Rodriguez are poised to be surprise inclusions from kick-off, while Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is in the frame to make his first senior start.

Further reports in the Mirror suggest Arsene Wenger has held talks with Hodgson over the fitness of midfielder Jack Wilshere.

Wenger would prefer Wilshere to play against Chile and sit out the match with Germany, in order to aid his recovery from a long-standing ankle problem.

The 21-year-old has been hampered by the injury - which also kept him out for 17 months - but has played on regardless, although Wenger is keen for his player to be rested ahead of Arsenal's league game with Southampton on November 23.
