Jones: Friendlies will be tough

Steven Gerrard has undergone an injection in his hip in order to play for England against Germany on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail.

Roy Hodgson confirmed the Liverpool captain will miss Friday's friendly with Chile at Wembley, along with Tottenham defender Kyle Walker, but expects the midfielder will be fit for the second World Cup warm-up friendly next week.

"Gerrard misses Chile but he's had an injection and I hope he will be fit for Germany," Hodgson said.

The England boss has already seen Manchester United duo Danny Welbeck and Michael Carrick pull out of his squad, while Daniel Sturridge's fitness is also a worry.

Frank Lampard should be named captain for Friday's game, should he recover from illness in time. With Hodgson's depleted squad becoming thinner, Southampton's Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez could be handed their senior debuts against Chile.
