Dowie closing in on Crystal Palace post

Iain Dowie remains favourite to be appointed the new Crystal Palace manager, although Cardiff manager Malky Mackay reportedly turned down an approach from the London club according to the Daily Mail.

Dowie leads a suggested three-man shortlist, with former Stoke manager Tony Pulis and Dan Petrescu thought to be in the running for the vacant Selhurst Park job.

Petrescu currently manages Dynamo Moscow, but would relish the chance to move to the Premier League, while Pulis was interviewed by Palace following his summer departure from the Britannia Stadium.

However, it is thought Dowie - who previously enjoyed promotion to the top flight with Palace in 2004 - would be the preference of chairman Steve Parish as he looks to replace Ian Holloway.

Meanwhile, Mackay is intent on keeping Cardiff City in the Premier League and reportedly reject an approach from Palace in October.

Mackay has endured a controversial few weeks at the helm of the Welsh club, after owner Vincent Tan opted to replace head of recruitment Iain Moody.

With Moody having found a new role at Palace, a source close to Mackay indicated to the Daily Mail that Mackay would not be joining him in London.

"Malky is chuffed that Iain has found another post but he won't be going with him to Palace," a source close to Mackay said. "He was contacted by representatives working for Palace but told them straight away he wasn't interested."
