Sturridge fit for Germany - Hodgson

England manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed Daniel Sturridge should be fit for England's friendly with Germany at Wembley on Tuesday.

Sturridge limped out of a training session early on Monday with what appeared to be an injury, but Hodgson revealed he wanted to give Rickie Lambert time to impress in the forward role. Liverpool striker Sturridge previously missed Friday's defeat to Chile because of a foot injury.

"He's [Sturridge] fine. Last week he obviously couldn't take much part in training but his injury, which he brought with him from his club, is improving all the time," Hodgson said.

"The reason he came off after two sectors - if you like - of the game we were playing this morning, was to give Rickie Lambert a chance also playing at centre-forward because there's a good chance, and we want to see him play tomorrow night as well as Daniel Sturridge."

Hodgson stated the players who wore bibs in the open training session were indeed his preferred XI to face Germany. On that indication, the team will be Joe Hart, Kyle Walker, Chris Smalling, Phil Jagielka, Ashley Cole, Andros Townsend, Steven Gerrard, Tom Cleverley, Adam Lallana, Wayne Rooney and Sturridge.

"I don't want to be portrayed as cunning," Hodgson joked.

The England boss will make nine changes from the starting XI that lost 2-0 to Chile, and one of those is between the posts. Hodgson feels that the recent dropping by Manchester City, after a string of mistakes, would not negatively affect Hart.

"I'm sure he'll respond very well. It's not my business, his club football career, and he's a proud man. He's very pleased to be playing for England and he's done well for us," Hodgson said.

"We've had no cause to doubt him during these very, very important World Cup qualifying games we've had. So if you take 14 very important games, we're unbeaten and he's only let in seven or eight goals in those 14 and I think he's entitled to feel confident to pull on the England jersey."
