Ramsey behind Wilshere return to form - Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Jack Wilshere is starting rediscover his best form, after his brace secured a comfortable 2-0 Champions League win against Marseille at the Emirates on Tuesday.

The Gunners have yet to secure their place in the knock out phase of the competition despite taking their tally in Group F to 12 points as they still need a draw in their final game against Napoli to secure their qualification.

But the form of a revived Wilshere suggests they have another match-winner emerging from their increasingly confident pack.

The 21-year-old has suffered an indifferent season as injury and dips in form have seen his team-mates take centre stage at Arsenal over the last three months, but Wilshere returned to prominence with a display that delighted his manager.

"He's coming back to a good level now," stated Wenger. "You could see that on Saturday [against Southampton] and again in this game. He has started to score goals and I like what I see from him in this game.

"He is starting to think, 'what Aaron Ramsey can do, I can do'. You can see [against Marseille] that he is free to move in from his position on the flank and he does that in an intelligent way.

"What is most important in a good football team is that many players can score and that many players can get chances. This time it was him [Wilshere] and another time it will be someone else."

Wilshere backed up his manager's confident words about his fitness levels, as he hinted he is finally overcoming the ankle problems that have troubled him for many a month.

"I played 90 minutes on Saturday, 75 minutes tonight and I'm feeling good at the moment, I'm feeling fit," he told ITV Sport. "I set myself a target of 10 goals [for the season] and I have four now, so hopefully I get there.

"Overall it was a great win against a good Marseille side. We created a lot of chances tonight, we played great. We and this was a good win at home. We got in behind them, got the two goals and we are happy with a win."

Wenger joked that the first half penalty miss from Germany's Mesut Ozil was "good news for England", as he works in a country that have been stung by many a German penalty shoot-out defeat in major competitions down the years, with his jovial mood understandable after another comfortable victory.

Admitting it was "unbelievable" that his side had not qualified for the last 16 despite their four wins in a highly competitive group, Wenger suggested the ease of this latest victory may have contributed to his side's failure to finish off their French opponents with a few more goals.

"We were in control and we lacked a bit of sharpness to finish the game off, but overall we were always in control. The only regret is we could have scored more goals," he concluded.

"Overall, we did the job in a comfortable way. Maybe it was too comfortable. We didn't feel too much under threat and the positive collectively is we were strong and did not concede. We have not finished the job and we have to finish that in Naples.

"We have 12 points from five games and overall it is a good number of points and I am confident that we can take another point or three in Naples if we play well.

"It is an interesting game, a difficult one, but we have played other difficult games away from home against very good opponents [and done well]. That is what we have to put in our mind."
