AVB frustrated with press

Gareth Bale has told BT Sport that head coach Andre Villas-Boas deserves more time to solve Tottenham's problems.

Bale's departure from Tottenham to Real Madrid triggered a summer of huge changes and big spending at White Hart Lane, with the world-record £85 million fee reinvested in new faces.

But the new-look Spurs side have struggled to find consistency - and Premier League goals - with only 11 in 13 games and a ten-point gap to leaders Arsenal.

Speaking before Tottenham's home game against Manchester United, which ended in a 2-2 draw after Spurs had twice led, Bale said the club, rocked by a 6-0 defeat at Manchester City last week, should stick with Villas-Boas.

"I think he should be given time," Bale told BT Sport. "I think he's a great manager - he showed that last year. They're going through a little bit of a bad patch at the moment, but I'm sure he's a good enough manager to pull everybody through, get out the other side and hopefully go on a good run and have a good season."

Bale said he recognised that Tottenham's goalscoring had to improve, explaining: "I've been watching quite a lot of the matches.

"They've been playing some good stuff - I just think they've been very unlucky in front of goal. They just haven't been clinical enough, really."
