Giggs urges United to move on

Ryan Giggs has told Manchester United they cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves after their demoralising home defeat to manager David Moyes' former club Everton.

Defending champions United languish in ninth in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, after Bryan Oviedo scored a late winner for the Merseysiders.

But player-coach Giggs, who made his first appearance as a 40-year-old at Old Trafford on Wednesday, is looking for an immediate response when United face Newcastle in Saturday's early kick-off.

He told MUTV: "It's a quick turnaround, but we've got to pick ourselves up. We cannot feel sorry for ourselves for too long. It's a home game and hopefully it will be a different result."

While United have only taken two points from their last three league games, they had not lost in 12 matches before Everton arrived at Old Trafford.

And Giggs added: "We need to get on a run, before this we were on a 12-game unbeaten run. We have to get over this disappointment now."

The midfielder believes United will be in a better position to judge their chances this season in January, after the busy December fixture programme, and feels they have been unfortunate so far this campaign.

He added: "We'll get a better idea in the New Year, and hopefully we can start picking up points again. We've had a few disappointing results, but the performances have not been that bad. We're just not getting the rub of the green, or taking our chances when we should. If you don't do that, you are going to get punished like we did against Everton."
