'Newcastle to charge media for access'
Newcastle United are to charge newspapers for exclusive interviews with members of staff, the Evening Chronicle has reported.
The news comes in the wake of the club's recent decision to ban titles from the NCJ Media publishing house for what the club feels was disproportionate coverage of a recent protest march by fans.
According to the report, titles in the North-East have been informed they will no longer be granted access with players in between matches for free, but instead are expected to pay for the privilege.
Confirming that at least one national newspaper has declined such a deal, the report also states Newcastle will push forward with their plan.
Currently the only Premier League club to operate in such a way, the Magpies have created three packages ranging from gold, silver, and bronze - denoting differing levels of access to club staff.
