The dubious goals panel has credited Luis Suarez with Liverpool's fourth goal in their 4-1 victory over West Ham, taking his tally to 15 Premier League strikes this season.

The goal, which came in the 84th minute at Anfield, was originally recorded as an own goal by West Ham defender Joey O'Brien. Suarez had blasted a shot from range, which took a big deflection off O'Brien before looping past goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The decision means Suarez extends his lead at the top of the Premier League goalscorer's list, with Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero currently lying in second with 12 goals from 14 matches.

Suarez has now bagged 15 goals from 10 matches, having missed the first five games of the new campaign through a suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season.

While not entirely significant at this stage, the decision could prove pivotal in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot towards the end of the season. In 2011, Dimitar Berbatov had a goal taken off him by the panel after Manchester United's game with Sunderland. As a result, Berbatov and then-Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez became tied on 20 goals for the season and shared the award.
