United States Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati has told the Sun he is confident Jurgen Klinsmann will not be joining Tottenham.

Former Tottenham striker Klinsmann has been mentioned as a contender to replace Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane following the Portuguese's sacking on Monday.

But, after the German recently signed a contract extension with the USMNT, it seems that Klinsmann is set to remain in his current post ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Gulati said: "We're not oblivious to the fact Jurgen's success has attracted interest from outside the US.

"Therefore there were pragmatic market considerations in offering him a new long-term contract.

"It's not specifically the Switzerland or Tottenham issues - but the desire to have a commitment from him, contractually, for a long time is vital."

Villas-Boas was dismissed after Spurs suffered a 5-0 loss at home to Liverpool on Sunday, having already been heavily beaten 6-0 at Manchester City this season.
