Adebayor handed rare Spurs start, United rest Rooney
Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor will start up front for Tottenham in their League Cup quarter-final against West Ham.
Roberto Soldado takes place on the bench, while Kyle Walker captains Spurs for the evening. Tim Sherwood, in charge after the club parted with Andre Villas-Boas, has made six changes to the side which suffered heavy defeat to Liverpool, including the return of Danny Rose.
Carlton Cole starts for the away side while Ravel Morrison, who scored a superb solo effort in the Hammers' 3-0 win at White Hart Lane earlier this season, has to settle for a place on the bench.
