Could Costa halt Arsenal's recent decline?

Arsenal could make an attempt to sign Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa after sending their chief scout to watch the in-form striker take part in two games this week.

Costa, who has scored 21 goals this season, is set to play a role in Atletico's Copa del Rey clash on Thursday against Sant Andreu and their La Liga fixture against Levante at the weekend.

And Arsenal's chief scout Steve Rowley will be in Spain to cast his eyes over Costa, who recently declared he would play international football for Spain rather than his native Brazil.

Costa penned a contract extension during the summer, and according to reports has a release clause of around £32 million.

With Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger failing in his attempts to land Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, the Frenchman sees the positions up front as the area where he wants to strengthen, with any attempts to sign Costa set to happen in January.
