Tottenham caretaker manager Tim Sherwood has admitted to his concerns that Andros Townsend could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Townsend, 22, suffered a hamstring injury during Tottenham's 2-1 League Cup loss to West Ham United on Wednesday night and was substituted in the 73rd minute.

And Sherwood, who is in charge at Spurs following Andre Villas-Boas' sacking on Monday, fears Townsend could be out for a while.

When asked after the game whether he would be out for a considerable time, Sherwood told the Daily Mirror: "It looks like it. It looks like he pulled up with a hamstring."

Townsend has made 14 Premier League appearances for Spurs this season, but last scored for the club in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on October 20.
