Rooney bagged his 150th Premier League goal for United, and in fine style too with a dipping volley to level the scores after his side had gone 2-0 down after 13 minutes.

Former United trainee James Chester then headed into his own net as David Moyes' side completed the turnaround to secure a fifth straight win.

"We had some poor results at the start of the season, but we are fighting now," said Rooney.

"We're ready for the challenge and we might surprise a few people."

Rooney also admitted his strike was among the greatest of his career.

"It was one of my best," he said. "It bounced kindly for me. This was a massive result for us."
